Ian regularly advises individuals and families on a variety of succession and estate planning issues, from the drafting of wills to the setting up of trusts, charities and other structures to achieve specific objectives of his clients. He also advises on the administration, governance and restructuring of trust structures, and has considerable experience in dealing with structures holding specific types of assets, such as listed securities, landed properties and insurance policies.
Ian also advises on the administration and inheritance of estates, with emphasis on high net worth estates with multijurisdictional elements. He has acted for individual and institutional clients in obtaining grants of probate and letters of administration in Hong Kong, and often coordinates with advisors based in other jurisdictions in relation to the administration and distribution of estates in those jurisdictions.
In recognition of his industry potential and exceptional work, Ian has been named among the 'Hong Kong Rising Stars 2024' by Asian Legal Business. He has also been recommended for private client-related matters by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific for both 2023 and 2024. Additionally, Ian was named 'Wealth Management Rising Star Under 30' at the WealthBriefingAsia Greater China Awards 2020.
Ian is currently a member of the Hong Kong Law Society’s Working Party on Charities and Trusts and Working Party on Enduring Powers of Attorney, as well as Wills and Estates Committee of Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Ian is admitted to practise in Hong Kong. He speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
