Charles Russell Speechlys advises Puma Private Equity on its £5m investment into Pockit Limited

Charles Russell Speechlys has advised longstanding client Puma Private Equity on its £5m investment into Pockit Limited, a financial technology company offering pre-paid spending cards, current accounts and other financial services.

Like many of the companies Puma invests in, Pockit is a fast-growing, exciting and disruptive brand which is simplifying the banking process for ‘unbanked’ customers by providing them with tailored products and services. The funding will be used to expand Pockit’s customer offering and further enhance customer experience. The investment marks Charles Russell Speechlys’ fourth investment for Puma Private Equity this year.

Puma Private Equity offers growth capital and expertise to best-in-class, ambitious businesses across the UK, irrespective of sector, and works in partnership with management to help businesses scale and create long-term value.

Kelvin Reader, Investment Director, commented:

“The Charles Russell Speechlys team were once again our trusted advisors and alongside the first-rate work of their Corporate group we were particularly impressed by their ability to field a full-service deal team.”

Ashwin Pillay, Senior Associate, commented:

One of the great things about working so closely with Puma is the opportunity to advise on investments into a genuine breadth of sectors, many of which require specialist expertise. This deal was no exception, and we were delighted to work closely with the Puma team to get this over the line.”

The team was led by Corporate Partner David Coates and Ashwin Pillay (Senior Associate), with support from Ayman Shehata (Associate) and Laurence Whymark (Trainee Solicitor). The wider deal team included Caroline Young (Partner, Commercial), Ilona Bateson (Associate, Commercial) Jessica Arrol Caws (Senior Associate, Financial Services), Briony Richards (Associate, Employment) and Amy Shuttleworth (Associate, Real Estate).
