Pro bono assistance to register charity supporting families living with Long Covid

Charles Russell Speechlys first connected with the team at Long Covid Kids in May 2021 when Jonathan Fisher, an Associate in our Bahrain office, introduced us via email to a relative of his who was aware of the great work they were doing. We have been assisting them on a pro bono basis ever since, and recently supported them on a successful application to register as a charity in the UK. This registration has been a crucial step for the organisation to open up the possibilities of expansion and much-needed fundraising.

Penelope Byatt, Associate in our Charities team, has been working closely with the small team at Long Covid Kids. Speaking on her pro bono assistance, Penelope outlined “When the request came through to support the work of this organisation, I was delighted to help. With the ever-changing daily news over the past couple of years of the pandemic, what was clear was the need to support small organisations like this who are helping families, children and young people living with Long Covid. Helping Long Covid Kids to become a registered charity will hopefully enable them to pursue new opportunities to seek much needed funding.”

Commenting on the pro bono work carried out, CEO and Founder of Long Covid Kids, Sammie McFarland, outlined “Penelope's expertise has been invaluable for our team; we have benefited from her extensive knowledge, which allowed us to focus on creating our vision. Long Covid Kids believe all children should be able to thrive and look forward to a positive future. Charles Russell Speechlys has helped us lay firm foundations from which we intend to build a service that meets the needs of children and young people living with Long Covid and the parents and caregivers that look after them.
