Charles Russell Speechlys launches as Hong Kong firm and welcomes litigator Ray Ng

Charles Russell Speechlys is launching as a Hong Kong law firm today and welcoming experienced litigator Ray Ng to the team.

After three successful years’ advising on foreign law in Hong Kong as a registered foreign law firm, Charles Russell Speechlys is now a registered Hong Kong firm, additionally able to advise on Hong Kong law.

Tom Shaw of Charles Russell Speechlys, Hong Kong, says:

“We are delighted to reconfirm our commitment to Hong Kong and the wider region for the long-term.

“We’ve had three very successful years as a foreign law firm specialising in private wealth advice and dispute resolution since opening our Hong Kong office in 2017.

Our localisation as a Hong Kong firm is a natural next step towards achieving our ambitions in this important global wealth centre, and we look forward to announcing further expansion in coming months.”

An important next step in this expansion is the hire of Ray Ng who joins the team from Ogier in Hong Kong where he was Head of Dispute Resolution, Asia.

With over 30 years' experience of handling onshore and offshore disputes in a legal career spanning London, the Caribbean and Asia, Ray enjoys an excellent reputation as "a first class lawyer...lauded by peers and clients for his extensive knowledge and his effectiveness in court" who is "technically strong, very strategic and commercial", "particularly good at thinking outside the box", and "has a particular understanding of the Asian way of looking at things".

A native English speaker, he also speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa.

Ray specialises in the resolution of complex high value multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes relating to shareholder rights, directors’ duties, corporate governance, cross-border restructuring and insolvency, trusts and commercial fraud. He is consistently mentioned and ranked in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

Ray Ng says:

“Within just 3 years of opening in Hong Kong, Charles Russell Speechlys have firmly established their credentials here as one of the region's leading specialists in private wealth and dispute resolution. Having known them for some time and worked with their private wealth team before, I readily accepted when Tom invited me to join in their expansion. I am very pleased to be here and I look forward to participating in and contributing to the firm’s continued growth."

Charles Russell Speechlys has offices in the world’s leading wealth centres across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and has provided Private Wealth advice for more than 150 years. The Firm authors the Hong Kong chapters of the Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, and ICLG guides to Private Wealth practice.
