BBC Radio Surrey interviews Shona Alexander on ‘Divorce Day’

The first Monday of the year has been dubbed Divorce Day.

It is reportedly the day when law firms see a significant spike in couples seeking advice or filing for divorce.

Shona Alexander, Family Partner, in our Guildford office shares her views on divorce day with BBC Radio Surrey.

She says:

....divorce day is a bit of an urban myth... divorce is something people think about for a long time, it is not something that people just suddenly make a decision about. There are many contributing factors to a divorce and approaching the whole idea of a divorce or even a separation is usually a long and drawn out process.

Shona also speaks about mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution. As a mediator herself, she has noticed an increase in people seeking mediation to sort through their financial and child arrangements. This is partly due to court delays and high associated costs.

Listen to the interview on BBC Sounds here:  James Cannon - 06/01/2025 - BBC Sounds. Tune in from 1hr 38 minutes.
