eprivateclient quotes Sally Ashford on considerations around power of attorney

The future is uncertain which is why planning ahead for the worst-case scenario is important for everyone. Individuals can do this is through appointing a power of attorney, or ensuring they have a deputy if they already lack mental capacity, who can assist in handling their finances if they are no longer able to do so.

Sally AshfordPartner in our Private Client team, speaks to eprivateclient and shares some of her insights. She has considerable experience in Court of Protection matters including deputyship and statutory will applications, and deals with complex capacity issues in addition to acting as a professional deputy.

In regards to appointing a power of attorney, Sally says:

I would always say get a power of attorney in place sooner rather than later because if you wait till you need it, it might be too late to make one and in any event it will take weeks for it to be registered and able to be used.
