If you’re living together and you’re not married, even if your relationship is at a fairly early state, it’s quite sensible to have some sort of written agreement that says, 'If we break up this is what’s going to happen'.
In the eyes of the law, pets are considered property. Sarah adds while a lot of people simply reach a verbal agreement on how they’ll split pet custody, it can be useful to have something written down.
Some circumstances have the potential to be problematic, such as if the pet becomes unwell, and people haven’t been clear about whose responsibility that’s going to be [to pay vets bills.
