Swiss Federal Council Maintains Work Permit Quota for British Citizens in 2025

The Swiss Federal Council has decided to once again allocate a separate quota of work permits for British workers in Switzerland in 2025.

Continuing to recognise the importance of British specialised manpower for Switzerland, as it has done since 2021, the Swiss Federal Council has decided to allocate a separate quota of work permits for British citizens hired by Swiss companies to start working in Switzerland in 2025.

This separate quota, valid for the entire Swiss territory, amounts to 2,100 standard work permits (intended duration of employment of more than one year) and 1,400 short stay work permits (employment up to 364 days). This allocation is consistent with the quota provided in 2024.

The total figures will be divided into four equal tranches, with permits starting each quarter of the year 2025. This phased approach ensures a steady and manageable influx of British workers throughout the year, allowing Swiss companies to plan and integrate new hires effectively.

The allocation of these work permits is a testament to the valued contributions of British professionals in Switzerland and highlights the mutual benefits of continued collaboration between the two countries. Swiss companies looking to hire British nationals are encouraged to take note of these quotas and plan their recruitment processes accordingly.
