Bridging the Digital Divide: Accelerating Investment into African Data Centres
On Tuesday we welcomed Invest Africa for a fascinating and wide-ranging discussion on opportunities for investors in Africa’s growing digital infrastructure sector. Key take aways from the event included:
- The continent’s demographics are a key driver for expansion in the data centre market with a growing young, tech-savvy and digital population
- Increased investment is coming from the global data centre operators such as Digital Realty and Equinix as well as private equity and infrastructure funds in recognition of the opportunities the market presents
- Challenges remain and stakeholders in the market including governments need to deal with these to move forward – in particular addressing the power and connectivity issues
- Also watch for regulatory developments such as data protection and data sovereignty legislation as the sector develops, which in part will create opportunities for the market.
Thank you to panellists Ola Oyetayo, Co-Founder & CEO of Verto FX, Geoffrey White, CEO of Agility Africa, Guy Willner, Managing Director, Digital Infrastructure at Helios Investment Partners, and Robert Schumann, Group Strategy Manager, Corporate Development at Cassava Technologies.
