UK Property Market Update

As countries around the world are easing their lock-down restrictions, the housing market is re-starting in England.

Since lockdown in March, home moves were prohibited unless “reasonably necessary”. The UK government has last night released its plan to re-start the housing market. From 13 May 2020 anyone in England can now move house if they follow new guidance published by Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick.

Estate agents’ offices can open; viewings are permitted; show homes can open and sales/lettings can proceed but guidance from Public Health England must continue to be followed. Detailed guidance from the government on home moving during the COVID-19 outbreak can be found here.

Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, our firm has been committed to assisting clients with their transactions. Having implemented “agile working” firm-wide, this has enabled us to continue with acting for clients whilst we transitioned from working at the office to working at home during this lockdown. For the sale and purchases that have been pressing ahead, we have included provisions in contracts to protect our client’s position in the event of delays caused if one of the parties contracted coronavirus or is required to self-isolate.

Whether you are a first time buyer or an investor looking to purchase a property, or a property owner looking to sell, Charles Russell Speechlys LLP is ready to assist you.
