Apprenticeships FAQs
Frequently asked questions about the solicitor apprenticeship scheme
Do you have minimum entry requirements?
Yes. You will ideally have achieved or be predicted at least BBB at A-Level (or equivalent), as well as 8 GCSE’s grades 9 - 4 including English and Maths.
Can I still apply if I don’t meet these requirements?
We understand that things don’t aways go to plan so if you don’t meet these requirements then we may still consider your application if you are predicted or have achieved CCC at A Level or equivalent. Please make a note of any mitigating circumstances on application form so that these can be taken into consideration. Due to the requirements put in place by the University of Law, we do require a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 / C or above including English and Maths, and 3 A-Levels at C or above.
Do you recruit on a rolling basis?
We do not recruit on a rolling basis as we believe all applications deserve to be reviewed. Please don’t rush your application as you’ll want to spend time researching the firm and considering your answers. However, please do ensure you submit your application well in advance of the deadline to account for any issues.
Will you pay for my law school fees?
Yes, all study and assessment fees are paid for by Charles Russell Speechlys.
Will I receive a salary?
Yes, you will receive a starting salary of £28,000 per year in London or £26,000 in Guildford, which will be paid directly into your bank account each month. This increases every year as you progress through your apprenticeship.
How often will I study?
One day each week will be allocated to study with The University of Law. You will also receive extra study leave before exams or when coursework is due.
What support will I receive?
Whilst you are in the office you will be supported by a dedicated supervisor for the team you are with and the Early Talent team. In addition to this, you will have a personal tutor at The University of Law who will meet you at regular intervals throughout the programme. One of our current apprentices will also act as a buddy when you join to provide additional peer support.
What if I need an adjustment during the recruitment process and/or once I join the Firm?
As a Firm, we are committed to providing an environment where candidates and our people have access to the support and tools they need to ensure they have an excellent experience during our application process and whilst they are at the Firm. This includes supporting with adjustments which would enable candidates to perform to the best of their ability during each stage of the application process and once their training commences.
Examples of adjustments we can make include, but are not limited to:
- Providing documents in large print or accessible formats
- Allowing additional time for tasks that form part of the assessment process
- Ensuring the interview location is accessible
- Any other support you may need relating to a disability or health condition.
If you are a candidate applying for a role at the Firm and would like to discuss any adjustments that might assist you during the application and interview process, or once you join the Firm, then please contact our Early Talent Team.
Any information you disclose will be kept confidential unless otherwise instructed by you, and will only be used to provide appropriate support to you during our assessment process.
